The College of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Karbala witnessed the discussion of a doctoral dissertation in the Department of Applied Geography, titled (The geographical region of the Tishreen protest movement in Iraq, “a study in political geography”).
The importance of the study comes from being linked to one of the most important political phenomena and the most influential in the future of the political process and the experience of the political system in Iraq after 2003.
The study plan presented by the researcher “Jawad Saleh Mahdi” came with an introduction, five chapters and a conclusion. The first chapter dealt with the concept of contemporary regional and protest movements. The second chapter dealt with the natural geography of the region and its protest history. The third chapter dealt with the study of demographic indicators, and the fourth chapter examined the dynamics of the revolutionary movement. The fifth chapter dealt with the role of effective external forces and their geopolitical dimensions towards the social movement.
The study reached several conclusions, including that the October movement is an important precedent in the popular practice of politics and the expression of the growing public discontent against the political class.
