Additionally, presenting in front of everyone boosts self-confidence and improves communication and public speaking skills, such as using body language and organizing thoughts clearly. In short, the seminar is not just a means of delivering information, but a dynamic environment that fosters knowledge and personal and professional skills, and represents an active participation in building an interactive learning community.

The College of Dentistry at the University of Kerbala organized a scientific field visit to the Radiology Department in the Imam Hussein Medical Educational City in Karbala Governorate, under the auspices of the college’s deanship. The delegation consisted of a group of third-year students, supervised by Assistant Professor Ali Salman Abdul Amir.

The scientific field visit aims to exchange experiences and knowledge and to familiarize our dear students with the modern radiological devices used in the hospital, such as spiral CT and MRI, as well as surface radiography.

The scientific visit included a hands-on observation of radiological devices, such as the spiral CT and X-ray machines (CR and DR), along with practical demonstrations of how these devices operate. The College of Dentistry extends its heartfelt thanks to the hospital administration and staff who provided all the facilities to ensure the success of this field visit.

The College of Dentistry at the University of Kerbala organized a scientific field visit to the Golden Tooth dental Lab for dental manufacturing in Karbala Governorate. The visit was sponsored by the college administration and included faculty members from the Department of Dental Treatment and a group of third-year students.

The scientific field visit included exchanging experiences and knowledge related to laboratory work for dental prosthetics and exploring the latest technologies, such as 3D printers and digital impression devices.

The Dean’s office of the College of Dentistry at University of Kerbala held a meeting that included the quality assurance and laboratory accreditation committees to discuss the requirements for applying the Iraqi standards for laboratory quality, prepared by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for all educational laboratories.

The Iraqi standards for laboratory quality include several axes, such as: laboratory design, availability of safety and security requirements such as early fire alarm systems and fire extinguishers, presence of informational signs and first aid kits, pollution management and waste recycling, laboratory records, and much more.

This meeting is part of multiple meetings held by the college’s Dean’s office to achieve educational quality standards leading to full institutional and program accreditation.

Appointment of Faculty Member from the College of Dentistry as a Resident Member of an International Journal

The British journal (International Journal of Production Research (IJPR)) announced the selection of Dr. Karim Abbas Dawood, a faculty member at the College of Dentistry at University of Kerbala, as a resident member. This journal is published by the global publishing house (Taylor & Francis) and is considered one of the top Q1 ranked journals with an impact factor of 8.2 and a CiteScore of 19.2 according to Scopus rankings.

The International Journal of Production Research (IJPR) focuses on publishing research related to decision-making assistance in manufacturing and operations management and logistics services. The journal publishes clear real-world applications in addition to fundamental techniques developed in computer science to address complex decision-making problems arising in the design, measurement, management, and control of production and logistics systems.

The selection of the faculty member for membership in this journal is attributed to his scientific stature and his publication of a number of scientific papers in journals both within Iraq and abroad, as well as his participation in local and international conferences, in addition to his membership in the peer review of scientific papers in several prestigious global journals classified under Clarivate and Scopus, such as:

Deanship of Dentistry – University of Kerbala holds a meeting regarding financial affairs and annual spending

The Deanship of the College of Dentistry at University of Kerbala held a meeting to discuss the financial affairs of the college and to develop a financial plan for annual spending, including the college’s expenses and revenues, as well as to assess the available liquidity for general administrative purchases and specific medical device purchases. The meeting also involved discussions on maintenance and construction reports, both completed and pending, concerning the rehabilitation of the college buildings.

This meeting is part of the ongoing collaboration between the financial and auditing departments on one side, and the procurement and maintenance departments on the other, within a plan to develop and organize the workflow in managing financial accounts, in addition to implementing the ministry’s directives regarding the financial status of the college.

The College of Dentistry continues the establishment of the new chemistry laboratory for basic medical sciences.

Under the direct supervision of the college administration, work continues on the establishment of the new chemistry laboratory instead of the Sayed Al-Awsiya Hall in the building of basic medical sciences at the College of Dentistry, University of Kerbala. The aim of the work is to expand the old laboratory with a larger space and more advanced scientific and analytical equipment.

Last week’s work included the rehabilitation of the hall, as posters were removed from the walls and damages were repaired in preparation for repainting. Additionally, the secondary ceilings were worked on, as well as completing the infrastructure for the laboratory, such as electrical installations and water and sewage pipes necessary for conducting scientific experiments.

Assistant Lecturer Barakat Muhammad Ali Zaini from the College of Dentistry at the University of Kerbala has been chosen as the head of the University of Karbala delegation in the Iraqi Universities Tennis Championship (for male and female students) held at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad, with the participation of more than 60 public and private universities from various parts of Iraq.

The University of Karbala tennis team (male and female students) achieved a remarkable accomplishment by qualifying for the quarter-finals in the Iraqi Universities Tennis Championship, after winning against the University of Al-Mustaqbal team for male students and the Al-Ma’mun University team for female students.

The University of Karbala is represented by a distinguished team that aims to achieve advanced results in this championship, which is an opportunity to enhance the spirit of competition among students and develop their skills in tennis, in addition to strengthening the university’s position in national sports events.

Gardens Instead of Classrooms… An Event on the Occasion of Iraqi Environmental Day

On the occasion of Iraqi Environmental Day, which falls on January 15, 2025, and in compliance with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the College of Dentistry at Karbala University organized an event to raise environmental awareness among students that included lectures and daily tests in the college gardens instead of classrooms.

This event aims to educate and remind college students of the importance of afforestation, preserving the environment, reducing damage and pollution caused by factories and devices, and the necessity of collective efforts to protect natural resources and mitigate the impact of pollution on public health.

It is worth noting that the most dangerous future threat we face is climate change and its economic impacts and severe environmental damage across Iraq. According to the United Nations Environment Program, Iraq is the fifth most vulnerable country in terms of adapting to climate changes, and addressing climate change should be a national priority in Iraq.
