Oral fungus is a pathological condition that appears inside the oral cavity in the form of white grains that are prominent and are found in different areas such as the tongue, throat, inner cheeks, and inner lips.

It usually infects humans as a result of an imbalance between fungi that are naturally present inside the mouth, and between harmless bacteria, as a result of several reasons, all of which are related to the behavior and lifestyle of the same person.

Causes of oral fungi

Oral fungus results from an imbalance between the fungi inside the mouth and the beneficial bacteria, especially since the immune system uses these bacteria to curb the growth and reproduction of fungi and harmful bacteria.

Therefore, the occurrence of this imbalance depends on some of the wrong life behaviors of the affected person, along with many other reasons.

Among these causes and behaviors are the following:

  • Take some medications such as antibiotics or steroids.

Exposure to severe anxiety and stress.

  • Having diabetes.

  • Infection with AIDS.

  • Iron deficiency in the body.

  • Vitamin B12 deficiency.

  • Deficiency of thyroid hormone.

  • Dry mouth.

  Smoking.

  • Lack of interest in oral and dental hygiene.

  • Radiation and chemotherapy in cases of cancer patients.
