The College of Agriculture at the University of Karbala discussed a master’s thesis in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering, which dealt with the effect of spraying nano-fertilizers on pomegranate cultivars “Wonderful and Slime” under salt stress conditions.
The study, presented by researcher Ahmed Mohamed, aimed to know which cultivar is more tolerant of salinity, as well as to know which fertilizers can be used to reduce the percentage of salinity.
The study reached a set of results, the most important of which was the superiority of the Wonderful variety over the Salimi variety in the studied vegetative, root and chemical characteristics, and it also indicated that the high salinity percentage leads to a decrease in the moral specifications of the product.
The study recommended the necessity of cultivating the “Wonderful” cultivar in high salinity soils and using nano-fertilizer at a concentration of (1.5 ml liter – Optimus plus + 1 g liter -1 IQ combi) to increase the tolerance of the two pomegranate cultivars to salt stress, and improve the characteristics of vegetative and root growth and the chemical content of the leaves.
